Active Failover
Overview
Utilizing Excedo DNS powered by Dynect active failover will replace your primary IP address being served, with a backup IP address. The DNS system is the Internet naming "glue" that will allow you to remap your domain names to your backup IP addresses when a problem occurs. And unless your DNS service is globally hosted on a redundant worldwide network, you´re in trouble, because if your DNS isn´t online, no single aspect of your online presence will work. Period!
How does it work?
There are two distinct parts to Excedo DNS powered by Dynect Active Failover feature, monitoring and failover. Monitoring uses servers located in our data centers to send health checks at regular intervals. It uses http, https, smtp and ping. In the event of failure monitoring will notify the DNS servers to replace the failed IP address with a designated backup IP.
What problems does Active Failover solve?
Having your servers, connectivity or DNS go down without any backup options.
Risks that are eliminated compared to using other solutions?
Many failover products on the market sit behind DNS, so if your DNS fails your failover/backup options fail too. By having your failover on Excedo DNS powered by Dynect you continue to have the power and flexibility you need to remain up and available to your customers.
Risks that a company is facing if they "don't" use Active Failover?
Service outages may result in loss of business, productivity, and costly recovery efforts.
Benefits achieved by using Active Failover
- Peace of mind
- No hardware required
